Cavity drain systems or Type C waterproofing are an essential part of an effective waterproofing solution designed to manage and control water ingress in below-ground spaces such as basements or cellars. When water passes through a structure or primary waterproofing barrier, they prevent water from entering a structure. they depressurise and redirect it safely away, making them the most effective solution for managing groundwater or leaks in areas prone to damp or water ingress.

How do Cavity Drains Work?

Drainage Membrane

A specialised dimpled plastic membrane is installed on the walls and floors of the basement. The dimples create a gap between the membrane and the building structure, allowing water to flow freely behind the membrane without coming into contact with the interior surfaces.

Water Collection

The water that collects behind the membrane is guided downwards by gravity into a network of drainage channels or sumps at the base of the walls or floor.

Water Removal

The collected water is then directed to a sump pump system, which safely removes it from the building, discharging it to an external drainage system or soakaway.
